Construction is well underway at the World Trade Center site in Downtown Manhattan. The following lists the major work taking place currently at the site:
Tower Three:
• Excavation
• Preparations for foundation work
Tower Four:
• Excavation
• Preparations for foundation work
Freedom Tower:
• Installation of tower-foundation steel columns (two cranes on site)
• Pouring concrete for the foundation and rebar installation for core and sheer wall
• Utility installation and tie-ins
East Bathtub:
• Major excavation of the south half of the east bathtub (sites of Towers Three and Four) from July 2007 through February 17, 2008; Silverstein Properties's construction team is mobilized and preliminary construction is underway
• Excavation of the Tower Two site through June 30, 2008; crews began working double shifts in February 2008
• Installation of mini-piles continues around the 1 train box, which runs through the WTC site along Greenwich Street
• Slurry wall installation was completed in mid-May 2007 in the bathtub's south half; installation of tiebacks took place through late 2007
Memorial:
• Slurry wall reinforcement
• Cassions and mini-piles installation was completed March 2008
• The "Survivors Stairway" was relocated from its original location to the west side of the WTC site, to be incorporated into the underground Memorial by 2009
• The first steel erected in the north footprint in winter 2008
• Memorial crews plan to remove the ramp into the WTC site in summer 2008 to continue construction on the south footprint
• The World Trade Center museum and memorial complex has reached its private fundraising goal of $350 million, its board of directors announced April 9
