WTC Construction Update, May 2009

Freedom Tower:

  • Steel installation (two cranes on site)
  • The south core is more than 140 feet above grade and rising
  • The north core is above grade as of late February 2009
  • Final concrete pours are taking place on the sub-grade structure
  • Utility installation and tie-ins
  • WTC East Bathtub:

  • Excavation of the Tower 2 site completed in April 2009; PA turnover to SPI pending
  • Structural support and excavation under the 1 train box, which runs through the WTC site along Greenwich Street
  • SPI's construction team mobilized at the Tower 4 site in early 2008
  • WTC Transportation Hub being demolished/excavated
  • National September 11th Memorial & Museum:

  • Slurry wall reinforcement
  • Steel installation at the site of both memorial pools began in September 2008
  • Cranes are mobilized on site as of December 2008
  • Concrete installation began in March 2009
  • Memorial crews removed the ramp into the WTC site in January 2009
  • The "Survivors Stairway" was relocated to its permanent home in the underground Memorial in December 2008
  • Tower 4:

  • Foundation work including steel and concrete installation; substructure to grade in late summer 2009
  • Port Authority turned over "offset" area near 1 train box; SPI now completing foundations
  • Paving for Vehicular Security Center ramp on southeast corner
  • Tower crane was installed in early March 2009; second crane to be installed in August 2009
  • Overnight utility work is active on Liberty Street for T4 tie-ins
  • Tower 3:

  • Excavation, rock blasting currently on hold
  • Foundation/infrastructure work underway for Cortlandt Way
  • Tower 2:

  • The Port Authority's offiical T2 turnover to Silverstein is pending
