Visiting the WTC
"In just a few years, Downtown will become a showcase for the latest innovations in architecture, design and urban planning. At the World Trade Center site, renowned international architects have unveiled critically acclaimed plans for three new skyscrapers to complement the Freedom Tower and the Memorial. When all of these momentous projects are fully realized in 2012, they will stand as magnificent symbols of renewal."
-State of Lower Manhattan 2006, Alliance for Downtown New York
More than 5.6 million visitors traveled to Lower Manhattan in 2006. But according to the Downtown Alliance, the well-established downtown Business Improvement District, that's only half of those expected to head downtown once the National 9/11 Memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center (WTC) opens in 2010.
This influx of New Yorkers and visitors from around the world are key to downtown's rebirth. They are coming to visit the WTC site, to shop, to dine, to relax in local parks and by the waterfront, and to reflect on the 9/11 attacks.
